Why should designers consider color-blind groups?
Common error zone
Many designers consider colour blinding to be simply "unsure of the red and the green" and therefore avoid the red and green colours. In fact, colour blinding is of many types and affects the whole colour sensor system.
Accessibility design
About 8% of men and 0.5% of men globally Women suffer from various degrees of chromosomal impairment. By using color-blind simulators, we can visualize the color in their eyes, and optimize it. UI Contrast and Interactive Guidance.
Common colour-disorder type
Color Vision Defense, CVD, is divided into the following categories:
- Red Blind (Protanopia) L-cone cells are missing and do not feel the red light with long wavelengths. Red looks dark and yellow.
- "Deuteranopia" M-cone cell missing, most common type. The red and green system is in their eyes as a whole, and it's all yellow and brown.
- Blue Blind (Tritanopia) S-Cone cells are missing, very rare. Blue looks green, yellow looks gray or pink.
- Monochrome/Choose Blind (Achromatopsia) : Very rare, patients can only see black and white, just like watching black and white television.
Best practices in barrier-free design
- Do not just use colour to send messages : For example, when a bug is being sent in, the error icon (⚠) or text description should be accompanied by the entry box red.
- Increase Contrast : Ensure that the contrast between text and background is in line with the WCAG 2.1 standard (general 4.5:1, large 3:1).
- Use assistive texture : In the chart, in addition to colour differentiation, you can also use a dashed line, dot or different fill pattern.
Technical realization of this tool
This emulator is based on a standard colour transformation matrix that maps the original RGB colour space to simulate a specific colour blind type LMS Space. For the image processing, we use Canvas API Performs real-time pixel-scale matrix operations. All calculations are done locally at your device to ensure your privacy and data security.
