What's Yaml?
YAML (YAML Ain't Markup Language) is a humanized data sequenced language that is often used in configuration files (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, GitHub Actions, etc.) It is a hierarchical relationship, is simplified, is more simple than XML or JSON More readability.
Why should the YaML formatting tool be needed?
Although, Yaml, It is easy to read, but it is extremely sensitive to spaces and indentations. A small indentation error could lead to a failure of the configuration file and even to a production accident. The tool aims to address the following issues:
- Syntax: Real time to test the validity of your YamL syntax and locate the wrong line.
- ♪ The world is so beautiful ♪ Harmonizes indent styles, making complex configuration files clear and readable.
- Format conversion: Easy to rotate between YAML and JSON, and to move data between different systems or API.
- Compression processing: Removes unnecessary spaces and comments and reduces the size of the configuration file.
YAML Best Practices
- Always use spaces: YaML does not allow tabs (Tab) to indent, make sure that spaces are used.
- Consistency indent: Usually, two or four spaces are recommended as a first-level indentation.
-
Using notes:
Use
#Adds the necessary notes to enhance the maintenanceability of the configuration. -
Verify prior rows:
In applying configuration to the production environment (e.g.
kubectl applyBefore doing so, it is important that the format verification is done through this tool.
Specific issues addressed by this tool
This tool provides the following core values to DevOps engineers and backend developers:
- K8s Configuration Debug: Quick check YamL files for Deproyment or Service to avoid deployment failures due to indentation.
- CI/CD process optimization: Ensures the validity of syntax when preparing GitHub Actions or GitLab CI configurations.
- Inter-linguistic data interaction: When your backend interface is used, the second-stage no-loss conversion is achieved when the configuration file requires YaML.
- Large document processing: Optimized algorithms support the processing of large configuration files and maintain a very rapid response.
