In-depth analysis: How to calculate weighted results at the end of the period? How can we get out of jail at the end of the year?

In college, your final scores are not always "one test" for final exams. Professors usually assign different weights to the whole semester of study tasks (Weight), such as Attendance, Homework/Assignments, Midterm (Midterm) and Final (Final). That's the Weighted Average. Average Grade)”。

Weighted average formula

The calculation logic of the weighted score is very simple: multiply the [scoring] of each task by [weight ratio] and add all results. The formula is as follows:

Total score = (1 score x weight 1) + (2 score x weight 2) + ...

For example, assuming that you are present at 10 per cent (100 points), 30 per cent (80 points) and 60 per cent (not yet tested) at the end of the period:
You've got it now: (100 × 10%) + (80 × 30%) = 10 + 24 = 34min 。

End-of-cycle target projections: What are the scores to be passed?

This is the main concern of every university student at the end of the refresher season. Using the tool's “target prediction” function, you can calculate precisely what points you want to score on the final examination. The goal is “a pass (60 minutes)”:

  • If you're doing very well in normal times (for example, you get 34 points in average time), you're 26 points short of 60.
  • The final examination weighs 60%, and you need to get 26 out of that 60%.
  • Then the end of the period, the reverse, is just: 26 ÷ 60% = 43.3min 。 That means you can pass the grade of 44 on the end of the period!

On the contrary, if you do not perform well, you may need to pass 85 or more points on the end of the period to achieve a rating of 90 or more. At this point you need to strategically allocate time for the refresher course.

Three practical suggestions for college students.

  • Watch the syllabus on the first day of school: Clarify the weights of the achievements. If the final examination is extremely high (e.g. 70 per cent), you need to focus on the end of the period; If 40 per cent of the work is performed in a normal manner, it is absolutely impossible to leave any job behind.
  • Don't give up any of the "white" points: Attendance (Attendance) and accompanying testing (Quiz) are often the easiest to get a full score, which is the “martary river” for your final exams.
  • Planning refreshers using tools: The known scores for all subjects are entered into this tool one week before the examination to calculate the " pass line target points " for each section. Priority is given to studying the dangerous subjects “a great gap from the pass line”.
