What's a palette extractor?
The palette extractor is a tool to analyse image pixel data using mathematical algorithms and to identify the most representative colours. Each picture is uniquely coloured, whether it is natural, artistic or product photography. This tool helps you to capture these colors in a moment and to convert them to code that you can use for design.
Why do you need to extract colours from pictures?
In the design and development process, the mix of colours often determines the quality of the final work. The following practical problems can be solved by extracting the colour of the image:
- Building brand visual consistency: Draws the core colour from brand photography to ensure that the UI elements of the web page or App are consistent with brand image styles.
- Looking for colorful inspiration: When you see a beautiful picture of a graphic, colour-harmonized image, the most rapid way to create a color scheme is to extract it.
- UI Fit Picture: When developing applications such as music players, albums, the background colour is changed according to the current display of cover patterns, which significantly enhances the user's immersion.
- Supported design delivery: Quick generate CSS variables or JSON data for front-end developers to remove colour errors in communication.
Extract algorithms for detailed analysis
This tool provides four professional algorithms to address different extraction needs:
- Quantification of colours: The close colour grouping is suitable for extracting the most visible large pieces of visual colour.
- K-Means Cluster: A classic machine learning algorithm that finds the centre of gravity in image colour spaces in an iterative manner, with very balanced and representative results.
- Medium cut (Median Cut): This algorithm is a good way of maintaining colour diversity and captures some fine but important colour details from the images.
- Main colour extraction (Dominant): Focus on extracting the largest colour of the image and is well suited for generating the background tone.
Common Question Answers (FAQ)
Q: Can the extracted colour be commercial?
A: Colours are not copyrighted in themselves. You can freely use the colours you extract for any commercial project. Please note, however, that the picture itself may be copyrighted.
Q: Why is the color taken different from what I thought?
A: The algorithm calculates the distribution of pixels from a mathematical point of view. If you need a specific colour, you can use the Manual Coloring function to click any location on the picture.
Q: How is privacy and safety guaranteed?
A: All the pictures are processed locally in your browser, and the images will not be uploaded to our server.
