What's the reading time estimate?
Reading time estimates the number of minutes required for readers to read out of text length and average reading speed. Blogs, documents and marketing pages display "about X minutes to read" near the title, helping to build reading expectations, reduce jumps and increase completion rates.
How does this tool calculate?
- Chinese only:The number of characters in Chinese is ÷ set speed (default 300 words/mins).
- English only:The English word count is similar to the ÷ (velocity x 0.8).
- Mixed mode:The Chinese word is counted 300 words/minutes and the English word is counted 200 words/minutes.
- Content but less than 1 minute:Shows as one minute to avoid "0 minutes" of misleading.
Why does it help with content and SEO?
- Drop out: Readers are more aware of the time costs.
- Increase the probability of completion: the expectation is clearer and the expectation is more favourable.
- Auxiliary selection and length: Long before writing, avoiding excessive length or shortness.
- The Chinese and English combination is more accurate: the word "Hands" is counted separately and in English, which is more closely read than "one-size-fits-all".
Use recommendations
- The full text is estimated before official issuance, rather than the outline.
- The speed of the study is slow for professional readers; Quick-scanning can be quick.
- Shows the page for a long time, suggests "about X minutes" and leaves room for updates.
- Sensitive scripts are empty for input and local drafts of browsers are cleaned when they are exhausted.
Capacity boundaries
This tool does not analyse photo/video viewing times, nor does it assess the difficulty of understanding. The result is an estimate based on word volume, suitable for content operation and writing aids, and not a strict conclusion from the experiment.
